5 leadership lessons from virat kohli

Were you also astonished when you heard about virat kohli resigning from test captaincy?

Last some months have been really shocking for Indian cricket fans and team India admirers around the world as virat kohli himself left T20 captaincy and then Rohit Sharma replaced him as ODI captaincy and now virat kohli has left Test captaincy as well.

India was at 7 th position when virat kohli took over test captaincy and now for last 4-5 years Team India has been at the top.

One of the finest and most successful test captain has said good bye to captaincy.

#thankyouviratkohli

But we have to respect what he has decided.Today we shall find out the odd angle into the situation and I would tell you about 5 leadership lessons from Virat Kohli .

1. Leadership is not title or position

One thing is clear from Virat Kohli's decision that great leaders are always ready to give up their titles and position for the sake of team.
Virat kohli has successfully illustrated that leadership can not only be demonstrated by holding position of captain or having titles of captain but with sacrifices and influence as well .
Every cricket fans knows that virat has been always ready to face the pressure and he even took the responsibility for India's performance in T20 cricket and he left captaincy as well.
A true leader has no affection for positions but she/he truly cares about team and organisation for which he works.
Virat was so concerned about producing results and winning trophies for team that he was ready to give up his position for that, these are signs of true leader.

2. Great Leaders set up new standards

Virat Kohli has promoted the athleticism which no body expected from cricketers .
If I would say the word fitness then the first image would form into your mind will be of virat kohli only.
The fitness standards, performance and the winning mindset which virat kohli has set for the team no body has ever produced that.
He was the one who took the criteria of playing cricket from ground to Gym and this makes him the leader who sets high standards for himself and consequently making it inevitable for players to accompany him in uplifting team.

3. Leaders can be aggressive too

You may be convinced that Great leaders have particular traits and personality or persona which makes them great but believe me my friend that leaders come in all shapes and sizes.

We all were firm about the belief that great leaders are calm and with out expressions such as M.S. Dhoni but it was virat kohli who dismantled this belief and proved that Great leaders can be aggressive as well , every Indian admires his attitude of attacking the opponent team with playing , every one admired the zeal and enthusiasm which he carried to ground.

Too often people start imitating the leadership shown by some previous leaders but True leader doesn't transform his core persona for titles or position but he uses it for the good of team so was done by virat kohli.

4. Leadership is Influence

I remember John C Maxwell ( my favourite leadership expert) saying that leadership is nothing more and nothing less than Influence , Action and Example.

And virat kohli clearly justifies this statement
Virat Kohli not only influenced common people with his performance but he influenced his team mates and great players like Ms. Dhoni ,kapil dev, sir Vivian Richards and the god of cricket himself sachin tendulkar as well.

Virat has not only influenced team with leadership skills but with consistent performance as a player ,as a fielder and as a true sportsman also.

His approach was always action oriented as he always tried to win test matches even if team losses during the process but he never tried to draw matches or settle for less when there is even 0.1% chance of winning.
He always set example to team about what he expected to team.
#leader leading from the front.

5. Leadership of team performance.

Great leaders prioritise team performance more than the individual performance, virat kohli did it effectively as he was more happy than ballers when they got wickets.

When you know that it's your performance that may get you leadership but there are times when your performance may get affected as you may not be getting results by your side as a leader.

A true leader is not always concerned about consistent individual performance but about consistent performance as a team also and virat kohli proved that a leader is not an individual leading some people but a individual performer leading the team mates for the positive results.

1) Didn’t lose a single test series at home!
(Won 11/11)
Has lost just 2 tests and won 24!
That’s makes the W/L ratio of 12!! unreal 🔥

2) Bowlers under Virat Kohli have averaged just 25.4 which is 2nd best in the history of this game And best since 1962! (minimum 40 Tests)!

A leader is not only required to perform consistently but who constantly produces results so he was ready to give up captaincy as he could not win some matches.

The Odd Angle to the matter

What if I ask you that who in any team is most assured about his / her presence in team?
You may say a consistent performer and the captain , virat kohli was doing really well in both the departments of performance and leadership and this shows the ultimate selflessness that a player is ready to sacrifice his titles and position for the team.
His hunger to contribute to team has been consistent.
His consistency is proved by the fact that how much eagerly people are waiting for his 71st century.
In the end I just want to say that virat kohli is leader and performer of centuries.

Who should be our next captain for tests
